Exposed aggregate concrete is a decorative style of concrete suitable for driveways paths and patios. The top layer of the newly poured concrete is removed to reveal the stones (aggregate) near the surface giving a lovely natural finish. Specially selected aggregates and coloured pigments can be added to the concrete at the batch plant to achieve a wide variety of different effects. River pebbles can also be "seeded" on to the top of the wet concrete to again create different looks and a smoother surface to walk on.
Aggregates are available in a range of colours including white, green, gold, tan, black, grey, mid brown, pink and variegated hues. Pigments come in a wide selection of colours - to see some examples please go to the Coloured Concrete page under Residential Paving. On the next Exposed Aggregate page you will see some examples of natural concrete (with no colour pigments added) but with enough coloured aggregate to become the dominant colour of the finished driveway or patio.
